If you want to migrate your WordPress website to BigScoots, you can use the BigScoots Migrator plugin to make the process simple and smooth. This plugin allows you to transfer your site easily without needing advanced technical skills. It also gives you the flexibility to migrate your site on your own timeline, so you can start the migration whenever you’re ready, making it convenient to manage the move at your pace. In this guide, we’ll walk you step-by-step through setting up a fresh WordPress install on your domain, using the migration plugin, and completing the migration successfully.
Things to keep in mind before starting migration
In the plugin settings page if you see any notice message asking you to disable any specific plugin due to plugin conflict, please disable those plugins before starting the migration.
Please refrain from creating or updating any new content on your site until the migration is completed.
Please refrain from uploading new images or modifying existing images on your site until the migration is completed.
Please do not add any files, users, or content until the migration is completed.
Please avoid enabling 'http password authentication' (also known as site lock) on your site while the migration is in progress.
Please note, if you want to cancel the migration at any time, you can deactivate the BigScoots Migrator plugin on the live website.
Login to your WPO portal using this link.
If the domain you wish to migrate is not already added in WPO, click on Add New Site.
Enter your domain name, choose a fresh WordPress install, and then click Proceed.
Once the domain is added, go to My Sites and click on Migrate under Quick Actions.
A pop-up will appear where you need to download the plugin by clicking Download BigScoots Migrator. Then, click Download Plugin at the top, and click Generate Migration Key.
You will receive the migration key, which you will need to use during the migration process.
Now, access the live website's admin dashboard, upload the plugin zip file, install it, and activate the plugin.
Access the BigScoots migration plugin from the live website's admin dashboard, paste the migration key, and click Start Migration.
Now, go to WPO > Migration, then click the eye icon next to your migration to check the status of your migration.
Once the migration is complete, you will see the status marked as Checked for all items. You will also receive a notification in your WPO Portal as soon as the migration is completed.
Make sure to test the migrated website before switching the DNS. You can do this by updating your local hosts file. For assistance, please refer to this support article.
