WordPress Automatic Updates Settings are configuration options in WordPress to manage automatic updates for WordPress core, plugins, themes, and translations.
These settings allow you to enable or disable automatic updates for each category based on your preferences.
Below we will show you how to adjust your automatic updates settings.
Log in to your BigScoots Console using this link.
Once you’re logged in, click Websites from the top menu to access your website settings.
Select the domain from the list where you want to manage WordPress automatic updates.
Select WordPress, then click Overview.
Under Automatic Updates, click the three-dot menu next to WordPress Core Updates to adjust your settings. Your current update configuration will already be shown there. From the menu, select the option you want to use: Minor, Enabled, or Disabled.
We recommend selecting Minor, as this allows WordPress to automatically install minor and security updates while leaving major version updates for you to review before applying.
Let's break down what each option signifies:
Minor: With minor updates enabled and development/major updates disabled (default option), you stay up to date with important security releases. This option is generally safe and should not cause compatibility issues with plugins or themes.
Enabled: Enabling this option allows for all types of updates—development, minor, and major. Be cautious, as it may introduce compatibility concerns or conflicts with plugins/themes, but ensures you receive the latest features and improvements.
Disabled: Disabling updates altogether (development, minor, and major) can be risky as it leaves your WordPress installation vulnerable to security vulnerabilities and deprives you of new features and bug fixes. Use this option sparingly and consider manual updates as an alternative.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully updated your WordPress Automatic Updates settings in the BigScoots Console.
