One essential aspect of managing a website is choosing the right PHP version. By default, BigScoots sets the PHP version to 8.3, but you have the flexibility to switch between different PHP versions, including 7.4, 8.1, 8.2 and 8.3.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of changing the PHP version on BigScoots, ensuring your website stays up-to-date with the latest PHP capabilities.
If you switch the PHP version on your site and it appears to go down, you would want to switch it back to the original version and contact us to troubleshoot the issue. In most cases it will be a plugin or your theme not being compatible with the later versions of PHP.
Log in to your BigScoots Console using this link.
Once you’re logged in, click Websites from the top menu to access your website settings.
Select the domain from the list where you want to update the PHP version.
Now, click Access & Environment under Developer Tools in the left-hand menu.
Under PHP Configuration, select your preferred PHP version. In this case, we are selecting PHP 8.3.
You will then be asked to confirm the change. Click Yes, Update to proceed.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully changed the PHP version for your website through the BigScoots Console.
