This article will walk you through with a step-by-step guide of how to update your host records at Namecheap. The only time you would update your host records at Namecheap is when your domain is using Namecheap’s nameservers.

Step 1: Log into your Namecheap account. Once logged into your dashboard select “Domain List” from the left menu.

Step 2: Select your domain from the list, and choose “Advanced DNS” from the horizontal navigation.

Step 3: From the next screen you can modify your host records. In the image, we show you how to point the root of the domain to an IP address along with making sure ‘www.yourdomain.com’ points there as well.

You can see the Host record is set to @ which indicates the root of your domain ‘domain.com’ which then has a value of ‘1.2.3.4’, this would be replaced with your website’s IP address.

Then you would create a CNAME record for www which indicates ‘www.domain.com’ and enter in the value of ‘domain.com’. This will ensure that wherever ‘domain.com’ points to, so will ‘www.domain.com’.
