Congratulations on your optimized website! We recognize that the process of optimizing your website and introducing new tools might bring forth questions and curiosities.
This comprehensive guide aims to address common queries, provide insights into the changes made, and offer guidance on using the features included in your package.
What does the BigScoots Cache plugin do and why do I need it?
The BigScoots Cache plugin controls your Cloudflare Enterprise edge caching. It is necessary for the proper functioning of the Cloudflare cache, ensuring that new posts, page updates, and other changes reflect on your website.
What method was used for the optimizations?
The optimizations were achieved through the installation and configuration of the Perfmatters plugin. If you are not experienced in managing website performance, avoid making changes to Perfmatters settings. Reach out by submitting a ticket for assistance.
Are my images served in WebP format automatically?
Yes, as long as the viewer has a supported browser. If the WebP version is larger in file size than the original, the original will be served.
Should I remove my Image Optimization plugins such as Shortpixel, Imagify, or others?
You can remove these plugins, as Cloudflare now handles image resizing on their cloud, not on your server. Some users choose to keep them for disk space savings.
Can I use Cloudflare APO?
No, it's best to disable and cancel this service, as the full HTML cache replaces it.
How do I check if image optimization is working?
Open your browser's network tab, select an image, and view the headers. The headers will contain information about the image.
What about Core Web Vitals (CWV)?
Improvements in CWV will take time to appear, as they are calculated over a 28-day period by Google. If you have active issues in your Google Search Console, click "Validate."
What if issues arise after optimization?
While we perform a best-effort optimization, please test your site and monitor metrics. If issues persist, let us know so we can make adjustments.
We want to be clear about Google PSI: A perfect score isn't our goal, and it's not essential. Google evaluates your website based on Core Web Vitals (CWV) collected from real visitors over time and reported in the Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX). Our Performance Package aims to improve the real visitor experience, not the PSI or lighthouse test. Please wait at least 28 days for the CWV collection period to see improvements from the Performance Package, rather than relying on lab-based tests like Google PSI or GTMetrix, which are inaccurate.
