Migrating a WordPress site can often feel overwhelming, especially if you're not familiar with technical steps. Thankfully, the Migrate Guru plugin makes the process fast, simple, and reliable. Whether you're moving to a new host or duplicating your site, this plugin handles the heavy lifting for you no manual file transfers or downtime. In this article, we’ll walk you through how to use Migrate Guru to safely and efficiently move your WordPress site.

  1. Log in to the WordPress dashboard of the source website.

  2. Install the Migrate Guru plugin by going to the Plugins section and clicking on Add New.

  3. Activate the Migrate Guru plugin.

  4. Click on the plugin settings, enter your email address, and click on Migrate.

  5. You will be redirected to a new screen to select the remote host. There, you’ll see a list of hosting providers. Select 'Other Hosts' (You may choose a specific host if you have the login details).

  6. Now, you will have two options. If you already have the migration key from the Migrate Guru plugin on the source site, you can enter it directly. To obtain the migration key, install the Migrate Guru plugin on the source site, go to its settings, and click on 'Migration Key'. You will find the key details there, as shown in the screenshot below.

  7. Copy the migration key from the source site and paste it into the Migrate Guru settings on the destination site. If the source website is password-protected, enter the required credentials. Finally, click the 'Migrate' button to start the migration.

  8. The data transfer has now started and may take some time to complete. You can monitor the migration status on the screen, so please do not close the window until the process is finished.

  9. The other option is to click on 'Manually input host details'.

  10. Now as we have select manually, so we will add FTP login details manually of the source site.

    • Destination Site URL: name of the destination website

    • FTP Type: Choose FTP

    • Directory Path: the path where the files reside

  11. If the source or destination website is password-protected, you will need to enter the credentials before clicking on 'Migrate'.

  12. The data transfer has now started and may take some time to complete. You can monitor the migration status on the screen, so please do not close the window until the process is finished.
