gzip is a file format designed to compress HTTP content before it is delivered to a client. gzip uses its own gzip algorithm to reduce file sizes and optimize transmissions. In this tutorial, we will walk you through how to enable gzip the 'Optimize Website' tool in cPanel.

  1. Enter cPanel - If you don't know how, you can follow this guide.

  2. In cPanel, look for the 'Optimize Website' option under the 'Software' tab.

  3. On the 'Optimize Website' page, you will see three options:

    1. Disabled - The default option, content compression not available.

    2. Compress All Content - Allows for the reduction in size of all website components that the browser or web application requires. Selecting this option will compress all your site's content.

    3. Compress the specific MIME types - Allows for only specific, specified types of files to be compressed. It is a MIME type, so the syntax written must be in the type/subtype format (EX: text/css).

For the purpose of enabling gzip compression on your site, you will want to select 'Compress All Content' then click 'Update Settings.'

  4. You will receive a message like below, informing you that you have successfully changed your preferences and enabled content compression.

Congratulations! You've successfully enabled gzip compression.
