Changing the document root for addon domains in cPanel allows you to customize where the files for a specific domain are stored on your server. This can be useful if you want to organize your website files more efficiently or need to point an addon domain to a different directory. With just a few simple steps, cPanel makes it easy to modify the document root without affecting the functionality of your addon domain. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of changing the document root for an addon domain in cPanel.

  1. Enter cPanel - If you don't know how, you can follow this guide.

  2. Under the Domains section click on Domains.

  3. Click on Manage next to the addon domain for which you want to change the document root.

  4. Enter the updated document root to which you want your addon domain to point. Previously, my addon domain, addon-test.com, was pointing to addon-test.com. I changed it to addon-test.com/subdirectory, as my web files were inside the subdirectory folder, and then clicked on update.

  5. Once you click the Change button, the server will change the Document root for the website.

Congratulations! You've successfully changed the document root for your addon domain in cPanel.
