WPO: Removing a Domain (Site/Staging)

A step-by-step guide for removing a domain from your WPO dashboard.

As you build out your sites, you might find that you no longer need or want a particular domain and wish to remove it from your service. Whether the domain is linked to a live site or a staging environment, the removal process is straightforward. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to remove domains from your service.

Primary Domain

If the domain you're looking to remove is the one associated with your initial site (it will appear at the top of your 'My Sites' list), the process will be slightly different. Since this domain is tied to your account, additional steps are required to remove it. To proceed, please submit a support ticket, and we will take care of it for you.

For addon and staging domains, you can follow the steps outlined below.



Addon / Staging Domains

In the guide below, we will walk you through the simple process of removing an additional domain. The process is the same for either removing an addon domain or a staging domain, so you may follow below for either.

We will automatically remove billing for any addon domain once the domain has been removed from the WPO portal.

In the case of staging, if you remove a staging site, the backups for it will remain. You can also create a new staging site at any time.

  1. Log into your WPO portal and click 'My Sites' on the left side-bar then click the button under the Action column next to the domain you wish to remove.

  2. From the action button, click 'Remove Domain.' You will get a pop-up asking if you would like to proceed. After reading it over, type 'DELETE' into the box and click 'Yes Proceed!' if you want to remove site.

    If you do not see a 'Remove Domain' button, that means your domain is a primary domains, which you can follow the steps for above.
