As you gain experience with web hosting on BigScoots, you might want to create a new site based on an existing one. Fortunately, cPanel and Softaculous make it easy to clone your current site. In the guide below, we’ll walk you through the steps to add a new cloned site to your hosting account

Index:

Cost of Addons

Depending on how your service is currently structured, there maybe some additional costs to adding a site to your service. Please check the table below and check your service to see if you are eligible to add another site and have the storage capacity to do so.

105cc

1 Site, 5GB

$7.75 monthly / $83.40 annually

155cc

10 Sites, 10GB

$10.95 monthly / $119.40 annually

Adding a Domain to cPanel

Setting up a domain addon is simple and easy. Before creating a clone of your site, you must first configure the domain within your service. Below, we will guide you through the domain setup process.

  1. Enter cPanel - If you don't know how, you can follow this guide.

  2. In cPanel, look for the Domains option under the Domains tab.

  3. Within Domains click the Create A New Domain button to set up the domain for your new site.

  4. You will now be taken to a form. Please fill out the domain at top with the one you would like to use. Uncheck the box next to Share document root. Finally, you may skip over the Subdomain section. Once everything is all good, click Submit.

  5. Back on the Domains page, you will now receive a message indicating that your domain has been successfully created and will see your new domain in the table below.

Domain Setup - Pointing Domain Nameservers

Before setting up your site, please ensure that the nameservers for your domain are pointed to BigScoots. If you don't have a domain registered yet, you can register one with BigScoots by following this guide. Otherwise, you are free to register your domain anywhere and follow below to point the nameservers.

If you have a domain registered with BigScoots, you can skip this section.

For those of you with a domain outside of BigScoots we will need you to change your domain nameservers to the following:

ns1.bigscoots.com
ns2.bigscoots.com

If you need help, please use the search feature to look up your domain registrar and follow the guide to properly point the nameservers. If you don't know your domain registrar, you can check using this guide.

Once completed, you can check that your nameservers are pointed by using the link below and typing in your domain. The tool should display the nameservers as the following.

Clone Site With Softaculous

In this section, we will take the domain you added in the previous section and use it to clone an existing site from WordPress Manager by Softaculous.

  1. Enter cPanel - If you don't know how, you can follow this guide.

  2. On the left-side bar, click WordPress Manager by Softaculous.

  3. On the WordPress Management page, find the site you wish to clone then click the dropdown arrow to find all the options. Within the options, select Clone.

  4. From the Cloning page, select the domain you created above from the selection next to Choose Installation URL. Below create a site name for the clone site to be referred to. Everything else can be left as-is. Once finished, click Clone Installation to create the clone.

  5. Once installed, you will get a congratulations screen confirming that your cloned site has been successfully installed. Click Return to WordPress Management to go back to your sites.

  6. Returning, you will now see your cloned website within the WordPress Management page. For access to the new site, click Login. If you wish to delete the site and start over, expand the options wit the arrow and click Uninstall.

Congratulations! You've successfully set up your cloned site.
